THREE RIVERS — Triple Ripple Community Gardens, once a concept, is becoming a reality as the organizers break ground for the new growing season.
On Saturday (May 1st) at 10 a.m., the project will kick off with a garden blessing at the Huss School property, located at 1008 8th Street in Three Rivers. Volunteer orientation will follow. Teams are currently being formed to grow healthy food organically, to learn to cook and preserve this healthy food, and to offer local youth a creative activity for the summer.
The organizers hope to engage the community, parents, and youth ages 9-18 to give back to their community, meet new friends, and learn new skills. The community is welcome to participate in both the blessing and the volunteer orientation on May 1 or our first planting day on May 15 at 10 a.m.
Donations of tools and plants are currently needed. If you would like to donate, you can do so at these events, or send donations to: *culture is not optional, P.O. Box 1, Three Rivers, MI, 49093, care of Triple Ripple Community Gardens. Questions can be directed to Brenda McGowan at (269) 858-3714.
