The May 5th election in which the fate of a proposed two-mill tax levy will be decided received attention Thursday morning (April 30th) during the April meeting of the Three Rivers Health Authority Board.
Matt Chambers, President & CEO of Three Rivers Health, reported on his activities in recent weeks relative to the upcoming millage vote. He said, “I’ve been on the road, had my throat gone several times in the process.”
Chambers said he’s made presentations to all of the governmental units involved in the Three Rivers Health Authority and spoken to the Three Rivers Rotary Club, Three Rivers Area Chamber of Commerce, Constantine Village Council, churches, and made some home visits in his efforts to provide information about Three Rivers Health and the millage proposal.
Chambers noted that several millage opponents picketed on Broadway, near the hospital, last Saturday and have indicated they will do so again this Saturday. Regarding the “Triple Creek Dash” scheduled for Saturday morning, he said, “We’re going to have an information booth with the information to pass out to people.”
In reporting on his outings regarding the millage, Chambers said, “Actually, to me, the response has been fairly positive. I can’t honestly tell you how big the opposition is that’s out there.”
Looking ahead to the potential need to take action should the millage be defeated, the board, by consensus, agreed to schedule a special meeting for Thursday, May 7th, at 7 a.m. If the millage passes, the meeting will not be held.
