In need of some firewood?
Park Township may be able to help and you, in the process, may be able to help the township.
According to Park Township Supervisor Joe Eichorn, four of the township’s five cemeteries have trees that need attention to lessen the chance they will cause damage to grave markers, some of which are very old and hard to replace or repair.
Eichorn said, “We have some trees that need to be taken down – three large trees that we’re going to concentrate on first. We’re going to be hiring those to be dropped down.”
Eichorn suggested that anyone who may be interested in wood from the trees should contact Dan Miller, the cemetery sexton, at (269) 506-1435.
He said, “If somebody wants to work up the wood, they can take care of that and we’ll finish the cleanup and grind the stumps. We’ll probably do that in the spring. The cleanup of the brush we’ll probably do right away.”
Eichorn said the township had an arborist come in, look over the situation, and provide a list of what needs to be done to protect the stones. The three trees represent the initial work in what will be “kind of an ongoing process.” (Joe_Eichorn_audio clip – 1:13)
The Park Township cemeteries include Centerpark, Mint, Moorepark, Southpark and Parkville. Information about them can be found on the township’s website at www.park-township.org.
