City Clerk Lindsay Howes holds the 2009 Branch Award from the American Public Works Association (APWA)/Southwestern Michigan Branch honoring the City of Three Rivers for its recent Scidmore Park Riverwalk extension project.
The City of Three Rivers has been recognized by the Southwestern Michigan Branch of the American Public Works Association (APWA) for this year’s Scidmore Park Riverwalk extension project.
The recent presentation of the 2009 Branch Award for “Public Works Project of the Year” in the Quality of Life category for projects of less than $2 million was noted during the December 15th meeting of the Three Rivers City Commission.
In commenting on the award, City Manager Joe Bippus commended City Clerk Lindsay Howes who “did something she had never done before” in overseeing the project which came in “on time and under budget.”
Bippus said Hurley & Stewart, LLC, the Kalamazoo engineering firm that served as the primary consultant for the project, nominated the city for the award.

Bippus described the project, which involved a trail extension along the St. Joseph River south of Scidmore Park, as “unique.” He said, “I think the trail blends with the ground really well – with the hills and the scenic look on the river. The wooded area it’s in is beautiful. We’re very proud of it. We’ve got a lot of good compliments on it.”
Howes accepted the award on behalf of the city during a luncheon in Lansing and was recognized during the commission meeting with a round of applause.
