St. Joseph County now has a new training tool. With a special grant provided by State Farm Insurance and local State Farm agent Mary Beth Fleury, a 911 simulator has been purchased by St. Joseph County 911 Central Dispatch for education of the public.
The 911 staff beginning early next year will be going into schools and other organizations to educate and provide a hands-on opportunity on how to use the 911 system.
$2250 was provided that paid for the entire cost of the system, which provides for hands on education and response whether you are 2, 22 or 92. Fleury said, “It is a great privilege to provide funds to this very worthwhile project. Educating our children and all citizens of our county is a goal State Farm Insurance tries to meet.”
The 911 policy board at a recent meeting was told of this potential grant and expressed their gratitude to State Farm Insurance and supervisor Susan Cook for her hard work in getting this grant approved.
This program is also available to adults such as the elderly and special needs; youth and community organizations; and a specially geared version for those who speak Spanish as a primary language. School sessions will be coordinated with the assistance of the St. Joseph County Intermediate School District.
