The White Pigeon State Police Post kicked off its “Stuff a Blue Goose for Christmas” project on Saturday, December 5th.
Three “Blue Goose” patrol cars – one each – were located at the Walmart stores in Three Rivers and Sturgis and the White Pigeon Post.
Since this was the first time the White Pigeon Post had tried a project this large, there was uncertainty about what to expect. In fact, the day did not start out well. One “goose” had struck a deer during the night and was totaled. Fortunately, no one was hurt. Also, the day broke cold and windy and the banners would not stay up even though they were in large buckets filled with concrete.
However, the cars were in place, the troopers were ready, albeit a bit cold. Then it happened! People gave and gave and then gave some more until the Blue Geese were filled, unfilled, then filled again with toys and food and good wishes until the day was over and still people gave.
Enough food and toys were collected to fill ten Blue Geese, all thanks to the generosity of people who just would not be stopped by a recession or a cold and blustery day in December.
The White Pigeon Post thanks all those who gave, whether a little or a lot, to help those in need and wishes everyone Happy Holidays and a very Merry Christmas.
