Chad Worthington, a psychology instructor, won a fund raiser tricycle race among faculty held on the Glen Oaks Community College Concourse.
Despite breaking his trike, Worthington managed to complete the course ahead of fellow instructors Michael Sandelin, a math instructor, and Ren Hartung, a science instructor.
The race before cheering students was sponsored by Phi Theta Kappa, the student academic honorary, on November 11th after a field of 11 faculty members was narrowed to the three top vote-getters from the student body.
$230 was raised to help pay for a Phi Theta Kappa conference hosted by the college.
An out-of-breath Worthington said the race was “very difficult” for someone his size on a child’s play toy. Equipment breakdowns were also experienced by the other riders, perhaps proving that grown men can’t fit on the three wheelers enjoyed by three-year-olds.
