The Fabius Township Board has adopted a resolution to sell property owned jointly by Fabius, Park and Lockport townships.

The action came during the board’s November meeting Wednesday evening (November 11th).

The resolution was prompted by controversy surrounding the pending sale of a vacant lot on Millard Road, one of several adjacent properties associated with the former Lockport-Fabius-Park Fire Department.

The resolution says that Fabius Township, as one of the township owners, agrees to sell property and authorize its supervisor “to sign any necessary documents for the sale of property jointly owned by Fabius, Park and Lockport townships if and when the townships all agree to sell the property together or as separate parcels for an accepted purchase price.”

A prospective buyer has accepted a counteroffer from the Fabius-Park Fire Department Fire Board to sell the lot for $8,500 and all three townships have approved the deal.  However, the Lockport Township Board objected to plans to put money from the sale into escrow.  Fabius and Park townships have since agreed to pay Lockport Township its one-third share from the sale of this lot.  The remaining property – including the old fire station and three firefighter homes – has been taken off the market.

In commenting on the resolution, Supervisor John Kroggel said it covers all of the Millard Road properties, but the sale of the vacant lot is the only transaction involved at this point.  He said the resolution and its authorization for him to sign documents is “a little bit redundant because, by law, that’s part of my role.”  And he said, “The Realtors were a little bit uncomfortable and, given what’s been going on, it’s understandable.”  (John_Kroggel_clip_11-11-09)
