St. Joseph County Probate Court and the Department of Human Services will celebrate the seventh annual Michigan Adoption Day on Tuesday, November 24, 2009, in Probate Courtroom B, County Courts Building in Centreville. The celebration will begin at 9:00 a.m. as part of a statewide effort to call special attention to the children who are adopted and to recognize all loving families that adopt.

As part of Michigan Adoption Day, the Probate Court will present speakers on the importance of families providing security and permanency for needy children. The Court and the Department of Human Services are working together on this special day to commemorate the joys of adoption and encourage more families and individuals to get involved as foster parents to can give children permanency in their homes.

There will be several families where the adoptions will be confirmed in the Courtroom that day. Each family has its special story, and the public is invited to attend to help in the celebration and learn the joy of permanency.

It is expected more than 50 Michigan counties will hold recognition events this year to coincide with the National Adoption Day. The date for this event was chosen for two days before Thanksgiving to reinforce that adoption families have so much to be thankful for. Anyone wanting to celebrate this important event and persons interested in the adoption process are invited to attend.
