The City of Sturgis will kick off its annual campaign for the St. Joseph County United Way on Tuesday, November 17th.  As part of the City’s campaign, staff will participate in “The Great Rescue: Sturgis Lives United.”

The Fire Department’s ladder truck is used to rescue people from fires and other perilous situations.  As a symbol of Sturgis City employee’s support of those in need, the ladder truck will be stationed in downtown Sturgis beginning at 8 a.m. and will remain there for the day.

The ladder will be extended with public officials occupying the bucket emulating a rescue.  City staff will collect donations at street level from the public, with the proceeds going to the United Way; the more money collected, the higher the ladder will go.

The City’s United Way committee hopes that everyone will find some time to drive through downtown, donate, and be a part of a community rescue of those in need in St. Joseph County.
