A recount of ballots cast for First District commissioner in Three Rivers in the November 3rd general election is set for Friday, November 13th.

According to County Clerk Pattie Bender, the St. Joseph County Board of Canvassers will conduct the recount at 9 a.m. in the Commission Chambers at City Hall.

George Ramsey, who lost the election to Judy Gilchrist by one vote – 207 to 206 – filed a petition asking for the recount after indicating his intention to do so in a post-election interview.  He said, “It would be a disservice to my supporters if I didn’t call for a recount.”

The Three Rivers City Commission is slated to conduct its annual organizational meeting Monday (November 9th) at 6 p.m.   According to City Clerk Lindsay Howes, the commission will appoint a Mayor Pro-Tem and determine its meeting times, rules of order, meeting guidelines, liaison appointments, and employee holiday schedule.  The session will include a general discussion of official duties and functions of the city’s department heads.  The commission will also consider playground equipment purchase and installation for Scidmore Park.

Editor’s Note:  This story was revised at 10:59 a.m. 11-9-09 to correct the start time for the recount to 9 a.m., rather than 8 a.m. as initially reported.
