The sound of music filled the Performing Arts Center at Three Rivers High School Thursday evening (November 5th) as the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra (KSO) teamed up with the Three Rivers Community Schools for a concert in its award-winning Community Partnerships program.

Michael Wood was the featured soloist during the KSO's concert at Three Rivers High School.

The concert, featuring a program of orchestral highlights titled “Music Moves Us,” was conducted by KSO Assistant Conductor Barry Ross.  KSO Principal Horn Michael Wood was featured as a soloist.  Capping the evening, the Three Rivers High School Choir, directed by Joel Moore, and the Three Rivers High School Wildcat Marching Band, led by Brian Shetterly, joined the KSO for closing numbers.  The choir performed “Gloria” by Antonio Vivaldi and both the choir and the band joined the KSO for a rousing performance of John Philip Sousa’s stirring march, “Stars and Stripes Forever.”

Ross noted that the tradition of the KSO playing in Three Rivers is a long one with the first such performance on February 21st, 1922, not long after the orchestra’s initial concert in December of 1921.  Ross said, “We appreciate the opportunity to make music with you.”

The KSO’s first fall tour concert was staged at Tibbits Opera House in Coldwater Tuesday evening.  The third and final performance in the series will be presented at the Vicksburg Performing Arts Center next Thursday (November 12th).
