Michigan State University Extension – County Veterans Services is teaming up with Family and Friends Supporting Our Military (FAFSOM) on Friday (September 25th) from 5 to 9 p.m. in the Community Tent at the St. Joseph County Grange Fairgrounds in Centreville.
The joint effort will collect items for deployment survival kits destined for families of deployed troops to help them cope with deployment.
The donation list for the kits includes the following: two clocks with batteries, disposable camera, scrapbook materials/photo album, maps, Post Net gift certificate, stamps, greeting cards, yellow ribbon for tree, picture frame, message T-shirt, coloring book, 60-minute phone card for family, deployment candle, laminating sheets, Blue Star banner and explanation sheet, military rank chart, and acronyms list.
During Friday’s event there will be donuts, cookies, water and punch while supporters make yellow ribbon pins to the music of the Good Vibrations Disk Jockey Service.
FAFSOM is a community-based organization that focuses on the families of servicemen and women to insure they are prepared for deployment and the life of a service member. The group pairs up families with other families in similar situations to share and grow strong.
The group services any family member that needs support in the Southwest Michigan and North Central Indiana areas.
